The new year has just begun, and couples have already begun tying the knot. The past couple of years have been a blur of pastel colour-themed weddings with whimsical, rustic vibes.
The wedding trends for 2018 are a whole different board game, though. Break away from fairytale nuptials and wave hello to five 2018 wedding trends that will make your big day even more special.
Bohemian-esque Wedding Themes
These last few seasons, Pinterest wedding boards have been filled with rustic, woodsy looks – think a barn venue, casual food, DIY floral arrangements, and gingham bunting. This year, make way for the new-age bohemian wedding. You’ll still see features of a rustic theme, but be prepared for natural and vintage details that are just as carefree as the typical woodsy, fairytale theme. In lieu of the casual vibe of rustic weddings, bohemian weddings provide a quirky feel that is just as appealing.
Deeper, Richer Colours and Black Accents
Previously, colour palettes have been all about light, dainty shades; white, mint, blush, peach, and powder blue have lent weddings that airy, dreamy edge. But in 2018, expect to think outside the tried and trusty palette. This trend favours mood over specific hues. Richer, more striking colours like burgundy and navy blue will start to take over in flower arrangements, as well as black, edgy accents and silver and chrome metallic.
If your heart still longs for gold and copper, don’t worry – they’re not going away for a while now. And certainly don’t be afraid to stick to stringent colour schemes; in the spirit of bohemian weddings, adopt a free spirit when it comes to picking out shades and textures of choice.
Cascading Bouquets
Watch out for bigger, better bouquets in 2018 weddings. A departure from small and simple bouquets, the cascading bouquet allows you to mix and match loads of different blooms to produce a wide range of colours, as well as incorporating on-trend greenery. This bouquet is different from traditional petite bouquets. With a larger, cascading bouquet, you can achieve many different styles, from bohemian and rustic to glam and effortless elegance – all of which will give your bouquet a modern feel.

Industrial Chic Wedding Venues
Let’s face it: outdoor weddings are absolutely beautiful. All the decorations in the world can’t compare to the stunning backdrop of Mother Nature. This year, however, prepare to see many more indoor weddings, including venues like the tried-and-true barn used in rustic-style receptions.
While the barn isn’t going anywhere, make way for the industrial chic space. Edgy and hip, and very much adaptable to the bohemian wedding trend, industrial spaces offer a very relaxed wedding venue – and, of course a good plus is that bad weather will have little effect on your wedding plans.
If you think industrial spaces seem too ‘harsh’ for a wedding, think again! These modern spaces can be well-complemented by feminine floral arrangements, plenty of greenery, hanging plants, and strings of Edison lightbulbs.
